Skin care tips and techniques

13 Aug 2009Getting a facial at a spa can be a relaxing, invigorating—and expensive—proposition. That’s why so many women opt to be their own facial therapist and give themselves a bit of pampering at home. With today’s high-quality home facials, you can expect to use the same natural and effective ingredients in home products but at far less cost than you would spend for a day at the spa.
Most spa facials start around $70 and prices go up from there. But home facials, which have the same and sometimes even better ingredients, cost a fraction of that. Even if you buy high-quality face products—which you should—chances are you have more than one use from each product.
But why do it at home when a spa is so wonderfully luxurious? Because you know you don’t have the time or the money to go on a regular enough basis to get the true benefits of a good facial.
Let’s face it (pun intended), women today are too busy and not inclined to take the hour or two required for a salon facial. And in a tough economy, it may be difficult to justify spending nearly $100 for a facial. But our skin does require pampering, making a home facial the ideal solution for the busy woman.
Another benefit of doing your facial at home is that you control what products you put on your face. No one knows your skin better than you, so having control over what you put on and for how long is vital.
Never had a facial (gasp)? Then trying one at home is a good start. Most facials involve a good cleansing, facial peel and/or masque and finish with a moisturizer. Facials leave your skin glowing, soft and healthy looking.
Home facials are also a terrific alternative for men: they have skin too and can benefit from a facial as much as a woman. Few men stroll into spas and request facials, however.
